Prof. Jerry Gana Pays Courtesy Visit to the Vice-Chancellor

The renowned Professor of Geography and a house hold name in Nigeria, Prof. Jerry Gana was received by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. I.A. Onimawo on Thursday, 9th June, 2016.  Prof. Jerry Gana who was the guest Lecturer at the 3rd Distinguished Public Lecture of the Faculty of Social Sciences was led to the office of the Vice-Chancellor by the Dean of the Faculty, Ven. Prof. S.O.J. Ojo.

Prof. Jerry Gana who was visibly delighted with the crop of the Management team thanked God for their appointment as well as congratulated the Vice-Chancellor on his appointment as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University.

He briefly gave account of his sojourn both in academic and politics and thanked God for the rich experience he had gathered in the process. He revealed that he willingly accepted the request as the Distinguished Public Lecturer for the 3rd Distinguished Lecture series of the Faculty of Social Sciences because of his love for the University.  He thereafter prayed for the growth and development of the University.

Prof. Jerry Gana further praised the Vice-Chancellor for seeking the face of God for the smooth take-off of the new administration. He emphasized the vital part of human existence for core value and prayed for the transformation of the Vice-Chancellor for greater heights.

He admonished him to be a good leader who would always move his team along with him.   He finally prayed for the success of Prof I.A. Onimawo’s administration, and announced that he would henceforth be an ambassador of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.  Prof. Jerry Gana delivered his distinguished lecture on the topic: “Geographical Dimension of Federalism, Democracy, Good Governance And Sustainable Development in Nigeria”. 

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. I.A. Onimawo specially welcomed the august visitor to the University saying that his visit was divine and auspicious because it was the day the University Management set aside to pray to Almighty God for the smooth take off of his Administration. He pointed out that the august visitor became a household name in the country because of the change of attitude he championed, during his days in MAMSA, giving him popularity beyond imagination.  He added that the coming of Prof. Jerry Gana was timely especially at the point in time when the University needed ethical re-orientation and wished that his address would reflect the medium of change.

The lecture was well attended by dignitaries within and outside Ekpoma, staff and students of the University. 

With the Vice-Chancellor to receive the august visitor were other Principal Officers of the University including some senior Non-Teaching staff of the University.
