The Authorities of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma Appoint a New Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration

A new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) has been appointed by the University Authorities. He is Professor Jude Aigbe Agho, Professor of English, Department of English, Faculty of Arts. The appointment which takes effect from Thursday, 26th May, 2016 is for a term of two years.

Prof. Jude Aigbe Agho was born into the family of Pa Agho, Ward 5, Oredo Local Government Area, Edo State on 6th March, 1962.

He had his Secondary education at the Siluko Grammar School, Siluko, the Trans-World Tutorial College, Jersey, Britain, and Diploma in Journalism and Professional writing, 1975 to 1983. He also had his University education at Bendel State University and University of Ibadan between 1981- 1993 where he bagged his First, Master and Doctorate Degrees in English.
Prof. Agho started his working career as a Graduate Assistant on the 11th February, 1987 in the then Bendel State University now Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma and was upgraded to the position of Assistant Lecturer in September 30, 1987. He rose through the ranks to the post of a Professor in October 1, 2002.

Professor Agho went into research in his main area of specialization which is the Literature component of English. His research interests in this broad area include the following: African Literature, especially the novel and drama genres, literary theory and practice; African – American and Caribbean Literature, etc.

He also taught graduate and under graduate courses in his Department. His supervision schedule covers the B.A., M.A. and Ph.D levels in some of the above enumerated areas.

Prof. Agho had several awards and honours for academic excellence but not limited to the following:

  1. One of the 2 best graduating students in the B.A. English Class in Bendel State University, Ekpoma in 1985.
  2. An award of honour plaque by the National Union of Benin Students (NUBS), Ambrose Alli University Chapter, Ekpoma on 5th November, 2005.
  3. Best graduating student, M.A. English Class, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, 1987.
  4. Honorary Appointee, Research Board of Advisors. The American Biographical Institute Inc. 2004.
  5. Recipient of a Certificate of Honour awarded by the Benin Traditional council signed by Omo Oba Erediauwa as a Benin Achiever, Jan. 2007.
  6. An Achiever and ICON Per Excellence Award plaque by the Edo Youth For Good Governance (EYFEG) on the 8th of March,2012, etc.

He has published extensively as well as attended several Conferences both at local and international levels. For the avoidance of doubt, he has 74 published books to his credit. He successfully assessed 33 Academic staff for promotion externally and internationally.

Prof. Agho, a prolific author is an Editor to many scholarly Journals.

His background as an astute researcher, scholar coupled with his educational qualifications ably enabled him to have a firm grip of administrative and management responsibilities. Thus, his appointment as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration represents a case of putting a round peg in a round hole.

Prof. Jude Aigbe Agho is happily married with children. We congratulate and rejoice with Prof. Agho on his new appointment as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma and wish him a successful and productive tenure in office.
