3. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
a) Masters Degree programmes
Candidate who possess any of the following qualifications may be considered for Admission:
i. At least a second Class Honours Degree of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma or any other University of recognized standing in the relevant discipline.
ii. Third class Bachelors Degree plus PGD or HND and any professional qualification with appropriate PGD from a recognized University.
iii. Holders of LL.B with at least Second Class Honours or Third class Honours or with a B.L. and at least five years post-call experience may be considered for the LL.M programme.
iv. For Masters in French studies, holders of B.A. or B.ED (French) with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division of any recognized University.
v. For Masters of Business Administration, Holders of a Bachelors degree not below Second Class Lower Division in any discipline OR a Third Class degree/HND plus postgraduate diploma in any administration related discipline plus at least one year post qualification experience.
b) M. Phil Programme
Candidates who possess any of the following qualification may be considered for admission.
i. Graduate of Ambrose Alli University with a Masters degree in related discipline
ii. Graduate of any other approved University with the qualification specified in (1) above
c) Transfer from M.Phil to Ph.D
A candidate with Masters (M.A and /or M.Sc) Degree who has been registered for the Degree of Masters of Philosophy (M.Phil) programme for not less than two semesters may transfer candidature to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) Degree programme subject to the following conditions:
i) That he/she has completed the course work requirements for the M.Phil degree with an average grade of 55 per cent.
ii) That he/she passes an oral transfer examination conducted by the Board of Postgraduate Studies of the Department on the subject of his or her research plan.
d) Ph.D Programme:
A graduate of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma or any other University of recognize standing who possesses Masters degree appropriate to the intended course may be admitted. However, such intending candidate should have scored an average of 60 per cent in his/her Masters Degree programme.
e) Departmental Requirement
Notwtihstanding the above, a Department may require an applicant, as a condition for admission, to undergo appropriate test, interviews, examinations, and/or take appropriate pre-requisite or concrete courses.
That students, were applicable, would be made to fulfill the Ph.D qualifying examination equipment to confirm their candidate before registration of their titles/Proposal.
f) Postgraduate Diplomas
i. Postgranduate Diploma in Architecture
At least a Third class Hons degree in Architecture
ii. Postgraduate Diploma in Geography and Regional Planning (PGDGRP)
At least a Third Class Honours degree in Geography and Regional Planning or any other related discipline relevant to Geography from AAU or any other recognize equivalent institution /holders of HND/HNC from a recognized Polytechnic or College of Technology may be considered.
iii. Postgraduate Diploma in Engineering (PGDENG) (Civil, Elect/Elect, and Mechanical and Material & Production Engineering) holders of good (HND) in Engineering with at least four (4) years post qualification cognate experience or Graduate in fields relevant to Engineering of any recognize University shall be considered.
iv. Postgraduate Diploma Programmes (PGD)
i. Postgraduate Diploma in Botany (PGDIC)
a) At least Third Class Honours Degree in Botany or other Science related discipline
v. Postgraduate Diploma in Chemistry (PGDIC)
At least Third Class Honours Degree in Chemistry; and any of the following:.
1. Industrial Chemistry
2. Biochemistry
3. Chemistry Education
b) HND with a Credit pass in Chemistry or other Science related discipline.
vi. Post graduate Diploma in Computer Science (PGDCS)
a) At least Third Class Honours Degree of Ambrose Alli University or any other recognized institution in a Science-based discipline. Other relevant professional qualifications may be considered on their merit.
vii. Post graduate Diploma in Microbiology (PGDM)
a) At least Third Class Honours or pass degree in Microbiology from Ambrose Alli University, or any other University of recognize standing, in the relevant disciplines such as Biology, Biochemistry and Food Technology.
b) Holders of FIMILS and AIMLS in Science related discipline.
viii. Post graduate Diploma in ZOOLOGY
At least Third Class Honours degree in Zoology and other related science discipline.
ix. Post graduate Diploma in in Business Management
a) First degree from Ambrose Alii University or other recognized University.
b) H.N.D from recognized Polytechnic or equivalent University
c) Full professional qualification of recognize professional Bodies approved by the senate of the University
x. Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)
A graduate of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma or any other University of recognize standing who possesses a good first degree classification acceptable to senate.
4. PERIOD OF STUDY
The duration of the courses to be offered shall be as follows:
a) Ph.D Programmes (Full-Time)
The duration shall be a minimum of three (3) academic sessions and a maximum of five (5) academic sessions.
b) Ph. D Programmes (Part-Time)
The duration shall not be less than five (5) academic sessions and a maximum of eight (8) academic sessions.
a) Masters in Degree Programme (FULL-TIME)
The duration may vary from Department, to Department, provided it shall be in the range of a minimum of one (1) academic session and not more than three (3) academic sessions.
b) Masters Programme (Part-Time)
The duration shall be in range of a minimum of three (3) academic sessions and maximum of four (4) academic sessions. Extension may be allowed for not more than one (1) academic session.
e) Postgraduate Diploma
The duration shall not be less than one (1) academic session for Full-Time and not more than two (2) academic sessions for Part-Time.
Note: In exceptional cases, an extension of not more than one (1) academic session may be approved by senate on the recommendation of the Board for all postgraduate programmes.
5. METHOD OF APPLICATION
Application forms are to be obtained at the School of Postgraduate Studies Office on presentation of the University Bursary receipt for a non-refundable fee of N10.000 (Ten Thousand Naira) only. A bank draft from a reputable bank made payable to Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, is to be converted to the University Bursary receipts before presentation to the school of Post Graduate Studies for collection of the application forms.
Also, N2,000.00 (Two thousand naira only) cash is payable to the School of Postgraduate Studies being the cost of a copy the Handbook.
