History will again be made in this University on Thursday, 27th May, 2010 as the University holds its 35th Inaugural Lecture series to be delivered by Prof. Felix Egharevba of the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Natural Sciences.
The Inaugural Lecture, titled: “Chemistry And the Quest For Discovery and Innovation” is scheduled to start at 2.00 p.m. at the Ultra Modern Lecture Theatre under the distinguished Chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sam. O. Uniamikogbo, FNIM.
The Inaugural Lecturer, Prof. Felix Egharevba who hails from Isua in Uhunmmwode Local government Area of Edo State had his Primary and Secondary education at Iguodala Primary school, Benin City and Eghosa Grammar School, Benin city where he obtained First School Leaving Certificate and the West African School Certificate (WASC) 1965 – 1970 and 1971 – 1975 respectively.
He proceeded to the University of Ibadan where he acquired B.Sc. (Hons.) Chemistry and M.Sc. Physical Chemistry in 1982 and 1984 and thereafter proceeded to the University of Benin, Benin-City and obtained a Ph.D in Chemistry in 1990.
Prof. Egharevba started his working career as a Clerical Officer, Lagos – Niger Shipping Co. Warri, taught in Igbudu Primary School, Warri, Teaching Assistant University of Ibadan between 1976 – 1984. He was Assistant Lecturer, Bendel State University, Abraka and rose to the position of a Senior Lecturer in 1994 before he joined the service of Edo State (now Ambrose Alli) University, Ekpoma. He rose to the position of a Professor in Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma in the year 2001.
Prof. Egharevba has wealth of experience both in administration and academics. He was a Departmental Course Adviser, Departmental examination Officer, Departmental Projects Co-ordinator, Co-ordinator, Department of Chemistry between 1984 – 1990.
He was also Head of Department of Chemistry, Bendel State University, Abraka Campus 1990 – 1991, Head of Department of Chemistry, Edo State University, Ekpoma 1995 – 1997, Head of Department of Chemistry, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma 1999 – 2000 and Dean, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma 2002 – 2006.
Other services rendered to the University and the nation includes:
- Member, Editorial Board of Annals of Natural Sciences.
- Member, Pre-degree Committee, Bendel State University, Abraka Campus.
- Member, Sandwich Programme Committee, Bendel State University, Abraka.
- Member, Edo State Government Committee on the Review of Appointments, Promotions, Deployments and award of contracts in 1999.
- Vice-Chancellor’s representative, College of Medicine Appraisal Panel, 1999, 2000 and 2002 among others.
- Examiner, JAMB – 2000 – 2003.
- Board member, National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, NASENI, Abuja – 2009 – date.
Prof. Egharevba attended several Conferences such as Chemical Society of Nigeria held at the Petroleum Training Institute (P.T.I.), Warri in September, 1989, Polymer Institute of Nigeria Conference held at Presidential Hotel, Port-Harcourt, in October, 1999, etc. He has also supervised many M.Sc.and Ph.D students. He has over 35 publications to his credit.
Prof. Egharevba is also a recipient of so many honours and awards including but not limited to the following:
- Recognition in Marquis Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, 2005 – 2006 USA.
- Biographical recognition in Contemporary Who’s Who of Professionals, 2004.
- Grand Patron, Sensational Modelling Academy, International, 2008.
Without any doubt, the Inaugural Lecturer, Prof. Egharevba has very rich profile befitting his academic status as a Professor of Chemistry.
Prof. Egharevba is happily married.
