Letter From the Chair, LOC, MYCOSON 2009, Ekpoma PDF Print E-mail
The Mycology Society of Nigeria is barely four years old. Though pretty young for a nations that is fifty years old, it is never belated to start a developmental affair. We came into existence as a society from the weaning hands and intellectual sagacity of renowned researchers like Professor R. O. Alibi and late Professor S.O. Alasoadura.

The shrub has produces vibrant leaves and flowers dare the elements for fruitful cohabitation. We are poised to increase our girth and strength and vigour of contribution to the Nigerian economy. We are lucky to have Professor B. A. Oso; a renowned researcher, innovator and respected Mycology teacher as our President.

We have created national for a for interaction. This year the annual conference of the society comes up in October at Ekpoma in Edo State of Nigeria. We expect you all there. Our theme for the conference is,

Biotechnology: Revolutionizing Mycological Research in Nigeria

This theme has arisen from a consideration of recent advances in molecular science and informational technology. We need to examine how our substantial contributions in various areas o biological science and especially Mycology have impacted in this form of research as well as look ahead into the future. This is more so as Nigeria has recently evolved a developmental plan that should come to maturity by the year 2020.

The society, by its very form and content, will focus on the fungi, which affect all aspects of human endeavour including food and agriculture, healthcare, social relations and industry. Some basic questions;

How far has the Nigerian Science policies laid ground rules for biotechnological upliftment in the next decade?

How far have these policies devolved to the laboratories, with particular reference to the availability of the necessary infrastructure?

Is the human capital component as expressive as desirable?

We are poised to evaluate these and other discourses that may arise, including our traditional scientific orientation.

The local organizing committee, LOC, invites you and your friends to our annual conference, tagged MYCOSON: BIOTECHNOLOGICAL REVOLUTION, 2009. Please keep checking this website for updates.
