Senate at its 241st meeting held on Wednesday, 29th October, 2008 approved the conduct of Mid-Semester Examinations as a policy and as a component of continuous assessment.
To this effect, all Faculties and Departments in the University are to ensure that Mid-Semester Examinations are conducted in every semester for students including those in Part-Time degree programmes, with effect from 2008/2009 session. The following guidelines should be strictly adhered to for the conduct of the mid-semester examinations: - As a matter of policy, a defined period should be stipulated or indicated in the academic calendar of the University at the beginning of every session.
- Between the 6th and 7th week of each semester should be designated for the mid-semester examinations.
- Lecturers should conduct ad-hoc tests or quizzes, 2 – 3 times during each semester, the weighting of which shall not exceed 10% while the mid-semester examination shall not exceed 20%. In other words, the total weighting of all components of continuous assessment shall carry a maximum of 30. This is with the exception of courses or programmes with peculiarities such as Engineering and the Sciences.
- The scores of all components of continuous assessment in respect of all courses must bedisplayed on departmental notice boards and handed over to the Head of Department two weeks after the mid-semester examinations.
- The mark sheet be redesigned to include column(s) for continuous assessment, such that, at a glance, the performance of each student can be seen.
- The first two days for the mid-semester examinations should be exclusive for he Faculty of Education while the other days are to take care of other Faculties.
