The University community and the undergraduates of the University in particular are hereby informed that the First Bank of Nigeria PLC is organizing an Essay Competition for undergraduate Students in Nigerian Universities and Polytechnics.
According to the release to this effect signed by Abimbola Jimi-Adebakin, on behalf of FITC Consulting, the Competition is designed to enhance the intellectual development of the students by promoting research and independent scholarship amongst them, especially in the area of Banking and Finance.
The topic for the Competition is “Infrastructural Decay and National Development – The Role of Banks”.
He further stated that interested candidates for the above essay competition must note, accept, and comply with the following conditions, before entering for the competition as stated below: The essay must be written by a bona fide student in any University or Polytechnic located within the shores of Nigeria. It must be an original work, with undisputable evidence of research efforts done to produce the work. It must contain an appendix of bibliography of all reference materials consulted/used. It must be typed, with double-line spacing, on A-4 sheets of paper. Candidates must indicate their full names, sex, discipline, Department and Faculty, contact address (institution and residential), e-mail address and telephone numbers as the covering first page. It should not be more than twenty pages long. Only hard copies of essays are to be submitted. Electronic copies/e-mails will not be considered, for control purposes. It must be prepared and submitted as stipulated, within the time frame given for the receipt of all entries (i.e. between Monday, June 2, 2008 and Tuesday, July 15, 2008). Photocopies of the candidate’s student identity card, which must be valid for the current academic session, must accompany every entry and a letter of attestation duly signed and stamped by the candidate’s Head of Department. The decisions of the judges, as appointed by FITC and First Bank of Nigeria Plc, shall be final. The Bank will not enter into any correspondence with any person or institution concerning the modalities and or results of the Competition. Prizes to be won:
1st Prize – N250,000.00 (Two hundred and fifty thousand Naira only), plus a Certificate of Merit. 2nd Prize - N200,000.00 (Two hundred thousand Naira only), plus a Certificate of Merit. 3rd Prize - N150,000.00 (One hundred and fifty thousand Naira only), plus a Certificate of Merit. 7 Consolation Prizes of N50,000.00 each plus a Certificate of Merit.
Those not Eligible to enter for the Competition Children and relations of staff of First Bank of Nigeria Plc., FITC, and their advertising agencies, as well as current industrial trainees at First Bank are not eligible to participate in this Competition. Submission of Entries.
