Members of the Syndicate Four of Course 30 of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, Kaduna paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. D.O. Aigbomian, KSM, JP on Wednesday, 30th January, 2008.
The team which was composed of six (6) staff and eleven (11) students of the College was led by Brigadier General Salihu Uba who was accompanied on the occasion by the Permanent Secretary, Central Administration, Government House, Benin City, Mrs. O. Idah. Brigadier General Salihu Uba briefed the Vice-Chancellor on the purpose of their visit which included:
- Enabling the students to have a panoramic view of as well as familiarize themselves with this part of the country especially in area of Environmental studies. He stressed that no military formation can down play on the importance of its environment.
- To train service officers for the middle level man power.
- Training of officers in diversified field on military tactics.
He noted with satisfaction that the tour which is a yearly event for the military students in-training had afforded them the opportunity of seeing things for themselves and that it had also prepared them for the national tasks ahead. He commended the vice-Chancellor for the giant strides the University had continued to make in the field of Law.
Finally, he thanked the University Management for the warm reception accorded the team which he noted would remain remarkable in them for a long time. He presented the Vice-Chancellor with a souvenir to mark their visit to the University.
The Vice-Chancellor in his response welcomed the team to his office and thanked God for granting them travelling mercies. He said that their visit was worthwhile and prayed God to guide them in the discharge of their national assignment. He briefed the team on the history of the University and thanked God that the teething problems notwithstanding, the University had come of age. He used the opportunity to inform the team of the graduation of the first and second sets of the Medical Doctors of the University and the outstanding performances of our Law students since the inception of the University in 1981. He added that the Centre for Strategic and Development Studies of the University runs a Masters and Ph.D programmes and enjoined them to avail themselves of the opportunity provided by the Centre to improve on their military training. He charged the students to be hard working as that was the only road to success.
The students used the opportunity to ask questions on some issues for which answers were provided. On ground to receive the team were the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. D.O. Aigbomian, KSM, JP and his Principal Officers.
The occasion was also witnessed by the Executive Chairmen of Esan West Local Government Council, Hon. Felix Akhabue, and his counterpart in Esan North East Local Government Council, Hon. John Yakubu among others.
