Members of the National Council of Nutrition Society of Nigeria were in Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma on Thursday, 22nd November, 2007 for their National Conference. On arrival, they paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. D.O. Aigbomian, KSM, JP.
The President of the Society, Prof. Tunde Oguntona, informed the Vice-Chancellor that they were in the University for the National Conference of the Society adding that the Vice-Chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo Univesity, Ago-Iwoye, Prof. Odutola Osilesi would be honoured as a Fellow of the Society at the Conference. He described the National Council of Nutrition Society of Nigeria as a body that stands for so many things in the country amongst which are: - To keep human beings alive in terms of making them know the appropriate nutritional intakes that will keep their bodies and souls together.
- To help mothers and their children to get on with their lives.
He described the Society as an Association of Professionals with the intent of making the public know their nutritional values. He asserted that Health is wealth and to achieve this goal, good nutritional in-take should be vigorously pursued, as, poor nutrition produces indolent work force in a nation.
He was particularly happy that Professors are able to participate actively in the Society’s activities despite their tight schedule. Concluding, he thanked the Vice-Chancellor for the warm reception accorded his team.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. D.O. Aigbomian, KSM, JP welcomed the team to the University. He was particularly happy that the Vice-Chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye was to be honoured by the Society which he described as very encouraging. He was of the view that no nation could achieve its cardinal objectives without considering the health of the populace. He therefore enjoined the Society to continue in their propagation of food nutritional in-takes for the well being of the nation.
Also speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor, Olabisi Onabanjo University apologized to the Society for his inability to identify with them properly in recent times due to his tight schedule as Vice-Chancellor. He affirmed that no nation can move forward if Nutrition education is not made available to the populace. He was disturbed that most people do not imbibe the importance of Nutrition adding that children should be supported and given good nutritional education. To achieve the above, he advised that the Nutritional Policy in the country should be taken seriously and religiously executed he thanked the Society for deeming it to honour him adding that by honouring him, the Society was indirectly honouring itself and enjoined them to sustain it. He finally prayed that the Society should wax stronger for the benefit of all.
He hoped that soonest, a Department of Nutrition would be established in Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma and thanked the Vice-Chancellor for his cooperation and assistance to the Society (Ekpoma branch).
In his vote of thanks, Prof. A.O. Onigbide, Head, department of Biochemistry of the University thanked the Vice-Chancellor for receiving the team warmly. He prayed for the growth and development of the University.
On ground to receive the team were the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. D.O. Aigbomian, KSM, JP and his Principal Officers as well as the Dean, Faculty of Natural Sciences who led the team to the Vice-Chancellor’s Office. |
