The University will on Thursday, 25th October, 2007 ho ld its 29th Inaugural Lecture series.  The Lecture, which, will be delivered by Prof. Igho Benjamin Igbinosa, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), is titled “Insects And Our Environment: The Conflict Between Man and Insects”.

The Lecture, which, holds unde the distinguished chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. D.O. Aigbomian, KSM, JP will commence at 2.00 p.m. at the Multi-Purpose Lecture Theatre of the University.  Below is a brief on the Inaugural Lecturer.
Prof. Igho Benjamin Igbinosa was born into the family of Pa Igbinosa of Urhokuosa in Uhunmwode Local Government Area of Edo State where he had his early Primary education before proceeding to Edo College, Benin City for his Secondary education. Thereafter, he attended University of Nigeria, Nsukka between 1972 and 1983 where he bagged his Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology (Parasitology), 1976 and Doctor of Philosophy, Zoology (Applied Entomology) 1983.

Prof. Igbinosa has 30 years teaching and research experience to his credit both in the University and Nigerian Institute For Oil Research (NIFOR), Benin City.

He was employed as a Research Officer in Training and rose to Senior Research Officer in NIFOR, Benin City between 1977 and 1985.  He joined the then Bendel State University, Ekpoma, later Edo State University, Ekpoma and now Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma in 1985 as a Lecturer II.  He proceeded to University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1987 as Lecturer I where he became Senior Lecturer in 1989. On returning to the University (AAU, Ekpoma), he was appointed a Reader in 1995.  Prof. Igbinosa was made a Professor in the Year 2000 i.e. 15 years after he was appointed as a Lecturer II in 1985.  It is important to mention that each time he was due for promotion, he readily met the conditions.  He has held several administrative positions at the Departmental, Faculty and University levels at both the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and in our University.   

At the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, he held the following positions amongst others: Secretary, Departmental Examiners Board (1988-1994); Secretary/Member, Faculty Examination’s Committee 1988-1992; Member, Faculty Publication and Collequia Committee (1987-1992); Member, Technical Services Committee (1987-1988); Member Faculty Library Committee (1992-1994); Faculty Representative, Academic Board of the Institute of African Studies (1992-1995).  

In AAU, he has also held the following administrative positions amongst others: Head Department of Zoology (1996-1997; 1999-2001); Chairman, Research Grant Committee (2002-2003; 2004 – date); Dean, School of Graduate Studies (2003-2004).
Prof. Igbinosa served as a member of Learned/Professional Societies such as Entomological Society of Nigeria (ESN), Royal Entomological Society, London (FRES) and Institute of Biology, London (MI. Biol.).

Prof. Igbinosa has rendered services to other Institutions as External Examiner both at the higher degree and undergraduate levels. In addition, as an erudite scholar, Prof. Igbinosa has published or has in press over 40 Scientific Publications to his credit and has attended and presented papers at both local and international Conferences, workshops, etc.    He is an avid reader and plays Lawn tennis as a hobby.

He is currently the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the University, a position he has ably held since September 2004.
He is happily married with four children (all boys).
