The Library building donated by Prince Ebenezer Okorodudu an Alumnus of the University was commissioned on Tuesday, 18th September, 2007 by the Deputy Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Prof. Amos Utuama, SAN.
In an address delivered by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. D.O. Aigbomian, KSM, JP, on the occasion, he welcomed the Deputy Governor, Delta State, His Excellency, Prof. Amos Utuama, SAN and his entourage to the University. He also specially welcomed Prince Ebenezer Okorodudu the donor to the ceremony. According to the Vice-Chancellor, in addition to building the Library, Prince Okorodudu also furnished it. The Vice-Chancellor added that Prince Okorodudu also made the following additional donations to the Department: 4 Units Air Conditioner, Current books purchased from London and South Africa, and a cash gift of N100,000.00.
He appealed to other public spirited and generous individuals and organizations to emulate the kind gesture of Prince Ebenezer Okorodudu.
The Vice-Chancellor also acknowledged with thanks the donations of 13 Nos. Fridges, 13 Nos. Stabilizers, 6 Nos. 14 inch Television, and 6 Nos. DVD Player made to the Department by another philanthropist and Alumnus of this University, Chief Wilson Ogieva, the immediate past Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Edo State. He concluded that the donations would complement the efforts of the University in ensuring that the Department of Public Administration earns full accreditation status of the National Universities Commission (NUC) during the next accreditation visit to the University. He further promised that the Library and all other donations would be put to judicious use.
In his remark, Prince Okorodudu said that the building of the Library and the donation of other items were borne out of his desire to make a mark in the Department and to assist the students in the area of up-dating the Department with relevant text books toward actualizing the students’ dreams. He observed that, most students these days, graduate from the University without a single text book, which, he described as an unhealthy development. He therefore advised the students to make judicious use of the Library in order for them to easily actualize their dreams and aspirations.
While commissioning the Library Building, the Deputy Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Prof. Amos Utuama, SAN thanked the donor for his kind gesture. He described Library as an integral part of education. He was happy that the donation had further demonstrated that Edo and Delta States are one and would continue to be one. He further advised staff and students of the Department of Public Administration to make optimum use of the Library and other items donated. Thereafter, he cut the tape to formally commission the Library.
In his vote of thanks, the Head of the Department of Public Administration, Dr. J. Azelema thanked the donors for their generosity and the Deputy Governor of Delta State and his entourage for being part of the commissioning ceremony.
Present at the ceremony were the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. D.O. Aigbomian, KSM, JP and some of the Principal Officers, Deans, Directors and Heads of Departments, the Deputy Governor of Delta State and his entourage, the donors and other dignitaries within and outside the State. |
