OBJECTIVES The broad objective is the provision of a sound scientific basis for the training of Medical Students in the Clinical Sciences. Each student at the end of the course is expected to be able to:
i. Define anatomical terms and expressions used in the study and practice of Medicine and communicate effectively in these terms with other specialists in the health profession; and ii. Apply the information obtained in the solution of either abstract or real problems involving human biology in his clinical years. |

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME The broad objectives of the programme in Physiology is to provide a sound scientific basis for the training of doctors and allied health personnel. It is the objective of this department to teach Physiology which will enable the students grasp adequately the normal functioning of the human body. The reason comes into sharp focus when the normal functioning is compared with altered physiological conditions encountered during clinical studies. The student is eventually expected to be able to apply this knowledge to health care delivery.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the end of the course in Physiology the student should be able to: i) demonstrate adequate knowledge of the physiological basis of medical practice; ii) demonstrate sound knowledge in Physiology with a view to possible scientific investigations in Physiological sciences; iii) apply the science of physiology in every day life; and iv) recognise pathophysiological conditions. |

OBJECTIVES Broadly, the courses in Biochemistry are designed to expose students to an understanding of the physical and chemical nature of substances in living things with particular reference to man. The interactions between substances are considered at the molecular level in relation to health and disease. The specific objectives are to:
- provide students with the scientific basis for an understanding of the mechanisms of metabolic and functional disturbances;
- provide students with an understanding of how macromolecules are utilized to provide energy; and
- provide students with the scientific basis for an understanding of the general principles of metabolic control and integration.
