Administrative Offices

The University administrative set-up consists of the Visitor, Chancellor, Pro-Chancelor, Vice- Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Admin), Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Registrar, Bursar, University Librarian, Deans, Directors and Heads of Department. Apart from the Visitor, the governance of the University rests mainly on the Governing Council, Senate, Congregation, all graduates and under­ graduates of the University and all other persons who are members of the University in accordance with the provision of the Edo Slate University, Ekpoma Edict 1991.

The Executive Governor of Edo State is the Visitor. The Visitor has power to conduct a visitation to the University at least once a year.

The Council is the highest governing authority of the University. It is charged with the general responsibility for policy, finances; particularly the control of the property and expenditure of the University, as well as the public relations.

Vice Chancellor PDF Print E-mail

 

The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive and Academic Officer of the University. He is also the Chairman of the Senate. He is vested by law with the general function, in addition to any other specific functions conferred on him or otherwise, of directing the activities of the University. The Vice-Chancellor presides at meetings of the Congregation and of the Convocation. He is also responsible for student discipline; and acts in this respect through the Students' Disciplinary Committee. Students also participate fully in the deliberations of the Committee through their own representatives on it.

The Registrar is the Chief Administrative officer of the University and is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day administration of the affairs (other than the financial affairs) of the University. The Registrar is the Secretary to Council and Senate.

The formulation of academic policies including the organisations and control of all academic activities of the University is the responsibility of the University Senate. The Senate is however, advised on academic matters by the Faculty Boards. It consists of the Vice-Chancellor (Chairman), Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Deans, all Professors, Heads of Academic Departments, Directors of Academic Units, University Librarian, and Representatives of Faculties.

Each Faculty is governed by a Faculty Board, which broadly controls the academic programme of the Faculty subject to Senate approval. In order that Senate may not be over-burdened by details, its functions are delegated to the Faculty Board whose Chairman is the Dean. The Dean is elected or appointed for a specific period (at present two years) from among the Professors in the particular Faculty. Part of the functions of the Dean is to present students in his Faculty for matriculation and to convocation for the conferment of Degrees, Diploma and Certificates on persons who have qualified for such awards after University examinations held in the various Departments within the Faculty
